Ebrake question

Okay, so this is my first car that I've had with an ebrake, so don't mind me if this question is stupid, but here it goes. When it put the car in park the ebrake engages a almost immediately after that, which is how the car should behave. My question is about the order of things. My neighbor had a lexus is350 and he would put the car in neutral, then apply the parking brake and then put the car in park. He said that that way the tension falls ont he parking brake rater than the transmission. Is this some old school stuff or is there some truth to it?

Nah not at all a stupid question. What your neighbor said does have some truth in it, putting the car in neutral, then setting the parking brake before shifting to park can take the strain off the transmission, especially on a slope. Its kind of an old school habit, but its still valid. With that, modern cars are designed to handle it either way, so youre probably fine doing it as you are

Good question, this is actually what most experts and seasoned mechanics would advice you to practice. If you use the parking brake first, it holds the car a bit so all the weight isn't pushing on a little piece in the transmission. Its one of the most basic ways to avoid damaging your transmission way too soon, very important especially considering how expensive transmissions are.

that's what I'm trying to figure out. I know transmissions are good and durable and all that good stuff, but is there something different between these new models and the older ones?
