panoramic sunroof finish problem

i have a camry XLE new and i stopped by toyota parts to price out the front and rear black plastic appliques (one's between the windshield and sunroof, the other's by the rear glass). it turns out they're not sold separate you need to buy the whole glass assembly (part #63233-06080) for $4K without the sliding glass or over $7K with it. all that for two plastic pieces!! i was hoping to replace them before thinking about a wrap or paint, since they weren't painted to start with. the plastic's breaking down though i polished and buffed it but the problem keeps coming back. i should have told the dealer when it started but i didn't. car's got 45K miles. i love it otherwise except the driver's seat leather wore out fast. i treat the seat wax the car and keep it clean but it's not garaged. tons of these cars are out there. anyone else dealing with this?

well bro you should've told the dealer while the car was under warranty. the previous owner of my camry did that and the problem is now solved without giving tons of money. the leather on the seats on these cars is a well known problem but you can find someone that works with leather and itll fix it for you and you wont even notice any difference between the original and the repaired one.

that's too expensive. do check out aftermarket parts if you can. and for the plastic breaking down, you can restore it by yourself using a repair kit. i don't have much to say about the other problems but yeah leather really does that (break fast) so just put on some covers for it or some synthetic one if you can.

That pricing is ridiculous for a couple of plastic pieces. I've had similar issues with wear on the plastic trim, but I just ended up cleaning it and using some vinyl restorer to keep it looking decent. For the seat leather, it's tough if it's not garage kept, so maybe look into a good leather conditioner to slow the wear. It's annoying, but you're not alone.
